Growing up is Overrated

Just wanted to share this little tale from my ride yesterday...

I went down this road I used to ride when I was a kid. I was in my early-mid teens then and used to ride my bike to the stables where I kept my horse. There was this hill with a sharp turn at the bottom on the way there that I rode everyday. I can remember thinking it was a fairly steep hill. I would fly down it pretending like I was in the Tour de France, and then lean deep into the turn. I'd come out of it hootin' and hollerin'. I think I may have even [gasp] walked up that hill once or twice!

So, yesterday as I'm descending this "hill" I start to giggle. Its no hill at all, just a little grade. I didn't even need to shift to my highest gear. And the turn at the bottom - hardly 90 degrees - was a nice wide smooth turn. Coming back up that little hill, I looked down at my chainring and laughed again when I saw I was cruising up with three gears left to play with.

Funny how your perceptions change, eh. What is it about time and age that dulls the wonderment of youth? I don't know, but I think we'd all be a lot better off if we could find ways to hold on to that wonderment. There's lots of time to get old later. ;-)

Be silly and have as much fun as you can as long as you can. Growing up is overrated! ;-)
